Let’s Talk Worship

Greetings fellow servant of the Living God!
Let’s talk worship.
No, not your worship team and all the problems they may or may not bring to the table. Not your thoughts on what decade of worship music was the best, or what church’s worship songs should or shouldn’t be avoided. These are conversations for another time. Let’s focus on your personal worship. Do you have a practice and rhythm of robust and honest personal worship?
True and authentic worship (personal AND corporate) begins with honesty. If you have ever been in a church that is singing praise to God while there is infighting and backbiting, the deeply intimate and authentic praise gets sucked right out of the room. Honesty in our relationship with God and with each other is an absolutely essential area of our own spiritual health.
For me, I have had several times in my life where I was ignoring things like disappointment with God, betrayal by a person, or grief and loss. This has led to my relationship with the Father drying up. Trying harder was NOT the answer. Working with more force was NOT the answer. Doubling down on what I was already doing to hide and ignore was NOT the answer. Getting honest with God in personal worship was the only thing He wanted from me.
I am a music person. A well-timed song in the right circumstance has changed the course of my life. A few years ago, I started curating a playlist of songs that expressed honesty in difficult seasons, songs that are meaningful in darker moments. This song found its way on to my playlist. I want to share it with you in case you need a time of honesty with the Lord today. The backstory to this song as well as the song itself have spoken to me and shaped me in deep ways, I pray it might for you as well.
May God keep shaping us all with deep honesty.
