FOR SURE!
By the time you read this column, our national Election Day will have passed — and we still might not know who has won the Presidency and has control of the House and Senate. Pundits and prognosticators have said depending on who is ahead there could be rounds and rounds of challenges so that some election results might not be known till January 2025.
Amid all this uncertainty, gamesmanship (if we’re even allowed to say this word now), and possible dirty tricks, there are some things we can be certain of! Recently I was texting back and forth with a very good friend who lives outside of our district. A horrible tragedy came upon his family that has rocked him and his family to the core. We’ve been going back and forth for a few weeks and the situation just seems to get more dark, more sad, and more complicated all the time. In the midst of this, in one of our last text exchanges, my friend wrote, Christ is still King! That was a fitting end to that conversation that had so many challenging situations within it. Christ is still King! Of that, we can be sure!
As I pondered this I started a quick list in my mind of things I know for sure from God’s Word!
- I am created by God (Gen. 1:27; Ps. 139:13)
- God is love (I John 4:7; Psalm 149:13b)
- God is faithful (Hebrews 10:23)
- Salvation is found in Christ (Acts 4:10-12)
- Heaven is real (John 14:2-3)
- Hell is real (Luke 16:19-31)
- God has plans for the Christ-follower (Eph. 2:10)
- The Holy Spirit is given to Christ-followers (Eph.1:13
- The Holy Spirit gives gifts to Christ-followers (I Cor. 12:1-11)
- Jesus is coming again (I Cor. 15:51-54)
On and on I could go with things we can know for sure from God’s Word. Interestingly enough, I typed in on Google, “Sure things from the Bible” and instantly artificial intelligence put this out….
- Forgiveness: When God forgives sins, they are gone forever and are as far away as east is from west.
- God’s promises: God’s promises are faithful and unchangeable, and people can trust in them.
- The word of God: The word of God is the surest thing that can be counted on.
- Faith: Faith is the assurance of things that are hoped for and the conviction of things that are not seen.
- Jeremiah 33:3: God will answer those who call to him and will reveal great and mighty things.
- Proverbs 4:23: The heart is the source of life, so it should be guarded with vigilance.
- Philippians 4:9: People can experience peace through the power of God by focusing on rejoicing in their fellowship with Christ.
Quite an interesting list from Google! If you were to ponder this thought, what things would you write down as being certain?
In our ever-changing world, let us remember there are still many things we can be confident in — that is for sure!
